Default [IW] Aircraft Carriers getting conveyed, er... projected...

In the HOMELINE / INFINTE WORLDS setting:

Could a big enough projecter be built at sea that an aircraft carrier the size of either the USS Nimitz or the USS Enterprise might be sent to a paralell?

What got me thinking about this was the idea of INFINITE WORLDS being used in connection with SG-1 type teams....and those massive stargates that we saw on the last two seasons of the show - the equivalent would possibly be Aircraft Carriers in the IW setting. (Also there was a good show about carriers earlier today on Cable)

What does everyone think?

Reminds me of the Movie "Final Countdown"

I couldn't see there being a huge issue. I don't really play the Infinate Worlds Setting.

Better yet have a homeline Carrier with a built in Conveyer.

Wouldn't that be "cool" though?

A bunch of ISWAT guys are supposedly trapped by REICH world time-hopping Nazis. Then one of the ISWAT agents says:
"Oh by the way we called for back up...look over there "

When the Nazi looks - there's 1990s tech level Aircraft carrier launching fighters and helicopters.

makes me consider actually going through and taking a serious look at Infinite Worlds.

It'd be hugely expensive, but I don't see why it couldn't be done - essentially it'd be a huge floating dock with added machinery. Such a thing wouldn't be very mobile, though, and given the size of the machinery needed in anything hopping any ship moved would be mostly machinery itself.

Loaded mass of a Nimitz class Carrier: 101,196 US Tons.

For JUST the generator the cost is a bit over 1 Trillion dollars.

For a 1-Quantum version, the generator is 15 Trillion. And the cost of the Projector is another 5 Trillion (Not including the cost of a floating platform to support it)

For 2-Quantum, the generator cost jumps to 30 Trillion.

A more practical idea...

Build a carrier with a Quantum-2 projector capable of handling up to 100 tons. The carrier can move anywhere around the world and THEN "catapult" aircraft (attack aircraft, tilt-rotors with troops, etc.) to any known world between Quantum 3 and Quantum 7, retrieving them as necessary.

Probably, although this would be expensive, each carrier has a back-up projector, so that if one breaks down, the second one could be used--an aircraft can't fly around for a week waiting to the projector to be repaired, after all.

The carrier could also launch mini-subs, small boats (including replicas of historical vessels), etc. to send in infiltration teams, etc.

One of Simon Hawke's Time Wars novels used a similar gimmick. The villain stole a nuclear-powered Russian sub from the late 20th Century, outfitted it with time travel technology and used it to terrorize shipping in the 1800's. The team sent to stop him naturally ran into Jules Verne...

BUt they are flying around for a week waiting for a window?

Make more sense to build aircraft carriers or what ever as conveyors on each quantum level and only use them for in quantum transit. No need to worry about the windows and need for massive projectors.
