Help me decide :)
I want to play more GURPS. I just bought the character assistant and I love it. I have the basic set but I crave more.
What resource books do you guys suggest? I have my eyes on Infinite Worlds, Space, Spaceships, Magic, Thaumatology, and Magic. I can't afford to get a lot at once though. And a couple of those books kind of go together like space and spaceships, and magic and thaum. I'll be mainly using them for solo play, that is playing by myself using the Mythic GM Emulator. What are your favorite books? I'd love suggestions. :) |

Re: Help me decide :)
What sort of adventures would you like to have? GURPS is more of a toolkit for constructing games than a game ready to play, and that philosophy extends into most of the supplements.
For example, the campaign I've been running for several years uses Infinite Worlds, Magic and Thaumatology. That isn't the usual way to use Infinite Worlds, but it works fine.

Re: Help me decide :)
Well the Infinite worlds campaign is really up my ally. Exploring strange worlds is very fun. But I also would like to try a space campaign for the same reason. Exploring fictional worlds is a lot of fun to me I guess.

I note that I missed Time Travel as a genre so will fix that in the next day or so. Since your question is fairly specific I offer the following. GURPS Time line for historical dates of note. Infinite Worlds has a nice background and setting with lots of suitable ideas for adventures. Than look at the Science Fiction part of that page for comments on that genre. Spaceships is a bit much unless you plan on space combat or an otherwise ship heavy game if your on a tight budget. Bio-Tech and Ultra-Tech will be useful for almost any SciFi campaign. GURPS Space is mostly about campaign building and world design. Good for an exploration setup. EDIT: Added a Time Travel section.

Re: Help me decide :)
True; I use them as "worked examples" which I then reverse-engineer for other powers as needed. :)

The first hardback (or first softcover reprint these days) probably doesn't have a universal answer. It depends on the individual. Some people have got to have Martial Arts or Powers and some won't end up using them much at all. The OP might get a lot out of Infinite Worlds. There's a lot of pre-made material in it. Even a small but highly useful catalog of early TL9 gear.

Re: Help me decide :)
It depends on what kind of campaign you want to run.
Generically speaking, though, I like both Low Tech and Martial Arts and recommend both. If you get Low Tech, get the three PDF supplements, too. The additional expense might influence your choice.
