You copied some of what I was going to post. My suggestion: killer robot satellites.

So building a Space Force kicks off a new Cold War, with massive weapons build up in orbit, with the main 3 or 4 superpowers putting everything but nukes on orbital platforms- rods, x-lasers, hypervelocity missiles. Then Anonymous comes along and pwns the whole shebang, and starts a wave of demilitarisation, taking out military bases and industry worldwide. Successive waves of bombardment could further target cities, civilian industry and infrastructure, down to whatever granularity is needed.

Now the killer satellites are still up there, ready to zap anything which matches their target recognition algorithms.
