Default Ask for help then run away?

Can you ask for help then run away and leave the helper to attack it alone?

No. When you ask for help, the Helper adds his combat strength to yours. If you are not then winning the combat, you would both have to run away. You do not fight the Monster separately.

Thanks for the fast response. What if its a monster that won't attack you if you <level 4 or under and you decide not to pursue it after you get help?

Because in our case he is level 2 and decides to get help but someone adds to the monster strength and we can't fight it anymore. So the level 2 decides to not pursue it (not rolling anything to run away) and the helper fails the run roll.

Then the main combatant gets away and the helper fails. You both have to run away, but roll separately, and fail or succeed separately.

It sounds like you have one of the more common misconceptions of the monsters that do not pursue you, Dmaynard. That text on a monster means that it will not chase you if you lose the combat and need to Run Away. These monsters always fight you, regardless of your Level, and you start fighting them as soon as they appear. You cannot Run Away without first losing the combat and you cannot choose to lose the combat if your combat strength is higher than that of the monsters.
