Default Donning armor

Any notion how long it takes to don armor when caught unawares?

Obviously, it depends on the armor, with plate being damned difficult, but I'm just thinking about what happens when a fight begins with unprepared folks. Is it plausible to don leather or chain before joining the melee? This sort of thing must come up in attacking or defending strongholds, where some people will be off duty and asleep.

For that matter, when camping, do you allow characters to sleep in chain or more uncomfortable armor? I'm leaning to a point of fatigue being likely, as described in the woodsman skill.

Thanks.

As a combat round is so short (5 seconds?) there’s no realistic chance of donning armour properly in the timeframe of a normal melee; a suit of armour, even cloth or leather, isn’t like a t-shirt. Picking up a shield, yes. But not armour.

Anything up to Chain: one minute

Full plate: 9 minutes

Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k24y_ZmxRHg

To ready or unread a glove or helmet is one round as per ITL 73

But, I guess, gloves and helmets have no real in-game effects in terms of armor.

They do if you’re using the aimed shots rules, dagger marksmanship and perhaps the crippling hits rules.

There was a thread about a similar subject in this forum a long while back.
http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread...ighlight=armor

Covered a lot of what you're wondering about and comments on town policy too. Though not the minutia about # of turns.
