As I type this I'm holding a .50 cal bullet that I yanked out if it's casing and I measure it as 5.8cm long. The part of the bullet that is visible protruding from the case neck is about 3.9cm.

A few other pieces of information.
The pilot basically sits in a Titanium bathtub, which is quite small. It has powered controls but also has manual backup that can be used when the powered ones fail.
