I think the claims are credible. We aren't surprised when a bullpup design allows a 20" barrel in a 30" gun; this isn't THAT different. Instead of the slide moving back and ejecting a round, then pushing the bullet into the barrel, the slide pulls the old bullet out as it pulls a new one back, then inserts the new one as it comes forward.

The concept is understood correctly. Almost like a bullpup for pistols.
As I understand this Doug, its made by a guy here in the Twin Cities metro. |

I haven't heard anything that makes me think they're lying, the idea seems sensible. The thing to worry about is the possibility of things going wrong since the gun is doing a lot more while the slide is moving.

Keep in mind that even with the longer barrel for a tiny pocket pistol, it's still under 75% of the muzzle energy of a normal 9mm... Gun barrel feed video: http://www.bobergarms.com/video/bobe...pending-feed-1 (I'm not a gunbunny, so others more expert on the issue will clarify.) Edit: Ninjaed, a lot. |

The caveat in re Gurps stats is that it won't have any advantages over a Glock 26. If a Remington Double Derringer is still only Bulk-1, there are effectively no Bulk 0 pistols. Even in Real World terms I don't think shaving an extra inch off the barrel would give any real advantage. You need to be talking about Buntline Colts before the barrel is the least concealable part.

So, in GURPS terms, would the 9mm round fired by this pistol be notably underpowered compared to other 9mm rounds from a "full-sized" auto pistol?

The Glock 26 has an 88mm barrel. I suspect the two pistols' performance will be basically identical. My sheet has it losing about 0.8pts of damage compared to a 5" barrel: 91% of full damage. The Unofficial Glock User's Manual has a full length pistol at 360m/s, and the G26 at 347m/s: 96% of full damage. The worst it will do is 2d+1, I'd say.

Basically, it gimmicks out the performance of a subcompact in a weapon the size of some of the smallest holdout guns. The problem in GURPS terms is that pretty much any object that you can actually grip like a gun is at best a -1 to Holdout. To get better than that, you would probably have to come up with something like a single shot tube with no grip to speak of.

What about giving it a bonus to the hold out check, while still remaining whatever bulk it is?
