Default Gun - Calibre - Wound Modifier - Overkill

I blame Guns&Ammo:)

I was looking at Glocks and wondering why in GURPS terms there is such a big difference between 357SIG and 40S&W.
Granularity for Playability of course.

I know there is a chart in Loadouts-Monster Hunters, for the Big Guns, but I wanted to extend it to the lower calibres, eg 9mm/.357, etc., and thought someone out there might enjoy using the extra numbers, if it works. 10mm being 1.5 and 9mm being 1.0 is too extreme a shift.

Calibre and Wound Modifier Extra
Code:
DamageType	Cal (mm)	Wound Modifier: low/ high velocity
Pi- 1 0.3/ 0.5
Pi- 2 0.3/ 0.6
Pi- 3 0.3/ 0.7

Pi-/ Pi 4 0.4 / 0.8
Pi-/ Pi 5 0.5 / 0.8
Pi-/ Pi 6 0.6 / 0.8
Pi-/ Pi 7 0.7 / 0.8

Pi 8 0.9
Pi 9 1.0

Pi+ 10 1.3
Pi+ 11 1.5
Pi+ 12 1.7
Pi+ 13 1.8
Pi+ 14 1.9

Pi++		15		2.0

Looking at the LMH numbers, I wasn't happy with the roundings. I figured, if you take the calibre in mm/10 and add 0.3 you get a number that fits into the GURPS pi-range (0.5/1.0/1.5/2.0) groups. Then, adjust for velocity, and, hey presto (someday I'll figure out how to make a table look like a table)
You can also check out: http://www.sjgames.com/pyramid/sample.html?id=2794 where I did much the same thing.

You can also send me your email address, and I can send you the XL spreadsheet I have that calculates this stuff for you.

In my spreadsheet, .357SIG (125gr at 404m/s) is 2d+3 with a wound modifier of 1.0. Average penetration/damage 10/10.

.40S&W 180gr at 300m/s is 2d+1 wound modifier 1.2. Average penetration/damage is 8/9.6

Throw the same slug at 351m/s (10mm Auto) and you get 2d+3 with 1.2 wound modfier, which gets to penetration/damage 10/12.

You're moved me to Ad-speak: Coca Cola!

And, now I've checked, your article is in my archive. Slightly more in-depth than my 30 minutes of madness:)

After a flurry of temporary arithmetical insanity, trying out all the possible permutations on Excel and switching from straight Cal to relative area, I've come to the usual conclusion:
why bother, the RAW GURPS numbers do it just fine and are far more playable.
eg for the rounds that mattered to me, there is no significant change for average injury:
Code:
Cal	RAW	Tweaked	Injury
9mm	1	1	9
357SIG	1	1	10
40S&W	1.5	1.3	13/12
45acp	1.5	1.5	10/10
Maybe it makes a difference for something else.
