I'm looking at the PCs for my current mid-altitude fantasy campaign Tapestry. Kenbash Nergul has Visual Arts; no one else has it. I had kind of thought Hanno might have Beer. . . .

I thought it was a weird Vampire: The Masquerade kind of thing?

My character in a friend's current monster hunter one-shot has the BtVS equivalent: a point of Wildcard: Style. Since she also has Talentless, she can't do anything creative with clothes, accessories, or grooming, but she can tell where anyone else shops and she knows what's current or trendy.

I read somewhere that "shaken vs stirred" was a cult argument among fans of the particular cocktail that Bond drank.

I have yet to hear anyone say the Bond version was correct. It's always been how stirring is the proper best method of mixing it.

It's in G:VtM, published 1993, but it seems to originate with G:Japan, from 1988.

I wouldn't say that shaking "ruins" anything; it results in a drink with a different character, and said character is preferred over here. You shouldn't get "watery" or "cloudy" if you use a properly chilled shaker and strainer (my Vesper is clear and strong), but a little ice water in the drink is fine.

The skill is certainly likely to come up in High School Hierarchy games (including Buffy-inspired stuff). Both the geeks and the queen bees will use forms of connoisseurship to establish social dominance.

Actually, if so, I have to admit that it disappeared from Japan 2nd edition. It is a very Vampire-y thing, I must admit.

Anyway - I should point out that Connoisseur has applications in the Memetics rules in Changing Times (which is one reason why it shows up on some characters sheets in the Personnel Files series). Actually, it should be somewhat useful in any campaign in which some factions are powerful and subtle enough to employ insidious forms of propaganda (whether you call the underlying theories "memetics" or something else). Propaganda can be inserted as a payload into many forms of art.

It's also useful to the sort of character that Broken Dreams calls an "Edgehunter". That's very appropriate to truly Gibsonian sort of cyberpunk or post-cyberpunk campaign. In a hyper-saturated media environment, an educated understanding of forms of media is often useful, whether you want to disrupt the media flow or acquire control of it.
