Default Stoned Golem And A Wandering Monster (Not the golem)

Hi, I've been visiting this forum for rulings on the intricacies of this game that always seem to come up as soon as a player is about to win. This really has been a fantastic resource for my friends and I so I'd like to start with a thanks to this community.

That being said, something that came up that had no apparent answer, here was the situation:

I was level 9 and had two items that gave me upgrades that boosted my combat level to 16. I kicked down the door and got a race card. So naturally I entered the "Look for Trouble" phase and played the Stoned Golem monster and let it sit there. My friend immediately played a Wandering Monster card with a Level 9 monster. This is where the dispute came from. I was arguing that I didn't have to fight the Stoned Golem (I was not a halfling) and so my level was high enough to defeat the level 9 monster and so I defeated it and won. Was thos correct?

You were correct. It is almost impossible to fight one monster in a combat and not another, but you have found one of the ways to do it.

out of curiosity, would another way to fight one monster and not the other be as follows:

I'm a half-ling, I look for trouble and play the lvl 3 germ. Even though my method of killing it is automatic, I do believe someone is allowed to wander a monster. My translation is that I automatically get the kill on the germ and can run from or try to defeat the wandered monster. If I chose to run I could get the treasure form the germ but not the wandered. Also, I would not get the treasure form the germ until I resolved the wandered monster. Am I right on any of these thoughts?

In typing I thought of another side scenario. What if in this same setup I mentioned someone were to play the transfer potion. Do I no longer get to automatically get to kill the germ as it is no longer mine to fight?

Sorry for the shotgun of questions, I'm a curious munchkin.

If there are multiple monsters, it doesn't matter if you auto-kill one of them, you don't get its treasure and level(s) until and unless you defeat any other monsters. If you Run Away from another monster, you sacrifice any rewards you would get for the one you killed.

I'm going to head off this discussion at the pass, because we're getting into non-101 topics. Let it stand that the general rule is as Mister Ed has given it.
