B376:
If a foe attacks you with a missile weapon and he is within reach of your melee weapon, you may parry.
You’re parrying the weapon, not the projectile!
For example, if an attacker fired a pistol at you from only one yard away, you could attempt to parry barehanded.
Success would mean that you slapped his arm or gun aside, causing him to fire wide of your body.
MA65:
Success means you parry and may roll against the underlying skill to
strike the attacking body part or weapon
..
on the targeted weapon or body part
I had assumed for a while that an aggressive parry against a weapon could only damage the weapon, but now I'm wondering, is this more of an attacker's option where you could specify either the arm or the pistol to damage?
This is apparently pretty tough (-8 on the followup hit to a reach C weapon or a pistol) but easier against bigger weapons used in close combat (-7 for reach 1 or medium-sized firearm, -6 for reach 2 or rifle) so even though the basic parry roll is the same either way (-1) the followup attack is more difficult.
This means weapons are always easier to hit than a hand (-4) unless the hand is holding a shield (-8). Does anyone know any in-between situations where you're -5/-6/-7 to target a hand?
If you are parrying the arm rather than the weapon would B378's -3 penalty for parrying weapons apply?
