Special Recharge: Take a Penalty
Is there a canon way to make an ER pool that recharges when you take specific actions, or in particular, take special penalties? For instance, you need to spend X rounds at -2 DX to recharge a point, or you have to kill a worthy foe, or anything that normally doesn't recharge energy (as with Leech, DR with Absorption, etc.).

Re: Special Recharge: Take a Penalty
Killing a worthy foe would probably be worth the Special Recharge limitation (p. P119) -- it's not RAW, but it seems more than fair -- but spending time with a disadvantage would not.
If the disadvantage isn't under your control (for example, only when a foe afflicts it on you), then you can put "Accessibility, Only while afflicted" on your Energy Reserve. Depending on how frequently that affliction occurs in your setting, it's probably worth -40%. If the disadvantage is under your control, you only get a small reduction. In general, a disadvantage that you can choose to switch on and off is a perk, and a trait which is only active while another trait is active has Accessibility, -10% (like Only in altered body form, p. B110). So this would be Energy Reserve (Accessibility, Switchable disadvantage active, -10%) + Perk (Switchable disadvantage). |

Re: Special Recharge: Take a Penalty
It seems like it's very easy to simply take Regeneration (ER Only) with Temporary Disadvantage (-2 DX) as your Special Recharge.
It ends up being fairly expensive, however. And you need to keep in mind that you can only get 80% of the points back from having the disadvantage in the first place (so in this case, Very Fast Regeneration would cost 68 points). So it may not be worth it in most cases.

Re: Special Recharge: Take a Penalty
ER recharges at 1/10 minutes, just like FP, unless you limit the ER with Slow Recharge. Are you thinking of Powerstones instead?

As to speed, the Special Recharge limitation is worth a lot because it means you can only recharge when you have an external source available (other people hitting you, giving you energy, etc.) but it does have the advantage that when that external source is available you can often charge up quickly. If you want that speed without requiring an external source (i.e., only dependent on yourself), you'll have to pay for Regeneration (ER). |
