Default LEGO Car Wars

After having looked at some of the LEGO Speed Champions models and doing a little digital customization, I was wondering if anyone has ever done Car Wars with LEGO.

With a car at about 6 inches long, the scale would be pretty big (6x?), but not totally ridiculous.

I'm starting to have bad ideas about this...

In the last ten years, I and a few club-mates started expanding the scale at which we game.
3X scale is perfect for HotWheels and Match Box.
1:18 scale die cast car models are perfect for 12X scale.

I had looked into Lego as a medium for car models.
A 5X10 stud baseplate is nearly perfect for the 3X world. Lego, being Danish in origin, built their measurements off of the metric scale and not the imperial
scale.

I also looked at the Speed Champions line.
My concern with anything between 3X and 12X scales is the Goldilocks conundrum: too big and too small.
A 6X scale is too big to be on a table.
Playing on the floor with a model that size lacks the impact that larger models have.

Using Lego will give you nearly unlimited style possibilities.
You can also model combat damage by removing parts during game play.
Your out-of-pocket costs might climb higher than originally thought, but it will be a blast.

Whatever you decide, drive offensively.

BrickArms, a company in Redmond, WA, has items that would be useful for LEGO Car Wars games.

Fantasy sets of LEGO have flames and melee weapons such as swords. The melee weapons could be helpful during Mad Max types of games.

When the really cool Lego Space range of models came out in the mid '80's , I spent most of one Summer building Car Wars type vehicles . They used the standard Mini Figures & were probably very clunky compared to later Lego constructions . They included :

• Blue single seat Sports Car with Front Firing MGs & a Turreted Laser . Chassis was 6 studs wide & wheels overhung that .

• Red Tractor-Trailer Rig that just seemed to get bigger & bigger ! Tractor had a multi barreled gun Front , Flame weapon Left & a large twin MG turret . Middle left side of Trailer flipped up to reveal many hidden guns . Had two small turrets at either end . Two Crew in Tractor , five in the Trailer on two levels . Both bodies were 8 studs wide but Tractor was much wider as wheels had to be outside of the space for the Kingpin . Trailer used four slightly smaller wheels under the rear end & a fold down stand for when it wasn't attached .

• Large motorized Black & Yellow tracked Bulldozer , with retractable Cannon that could be extended through top part of blade . Armed with many Lasers - some of which could light up . Blade was enormous - probably 14-16 studs wide & body was 10 studs wide at the front & 8 at the back . Had an Assault Ramp at the rear to .

• Black Station Wagon/Limo . Two man crew , Missile Turret & some sort of rear drop weapon ( dropping tiny black cubes from a train sets 'cargo' ) . Again six studs wide but with wheels not sticking out from the body .

• Various Dune Buggies & light Carts etc , mainly converted from Legoland Space & Town vehicles .

Great times . Just a great pity I never had pictures taken ...

I would suggest tailoring CW to work with LEGO that vice versa.

Go along the lines of Evil Stevie's Lego Pirate game.

You might also look at the World Racers LEGO range as they already have weapons built on.

There are also many micro scale models that could be used to represent generic vehicle types (and abstract out the visualization of weapon systems).

Of course you could do a hybrid and make a full minifig scale vehicle with all the weapons fitted and represent it on the playing board with a smaller model (or just a 4 x 2 plate of an appropriate colour). This would allow you to play on a reasonable table size but still allow a visualisation in a cool model (and graphically show battle damage)

As a Lego nut, I +1 this idea.

I have seen it done a couple of times at conventions, but not at minifig scale - they were teeny little cars. Still looked cool.

As a Lego Master Builder , I see I stand in good company ! :-D

Looking at the advance in Tec that goes into my Nephews's vehicle collection , I wish I could convert the whole lot now .
Did adapt a large mobile crane into a Twin Railgun Carrier , but my bossy Sister 'disapproved' of 'violent modifications' ...

Yet she's fine with TIE Fighters & X-Wings ...

Wow! That is amazing!

...and with apologies to LEGO, here are muted versions of a few of their cars:

They actually part out at about $15-20 a car. Not bad!
