I was wondering how you would purify water in GURPS. Thanks

Gonna need some parameters here. Do you mean technologically? I think there's some items for water purification in High Tech, and maybe some in Low Tech.

If you're using magic then there's a spell called "Purify Water" in Magic that might interest you.

Depending on tech level? Filters you can buy, the use of magic, or just boil it and hope that's enough.

Might not a successful survival roll get you drinkable water from some source (desalinated, plant juices, etc)?

Create (Water) ( ranged+40%, transmutation water to water only -50%) 4.5/level

If you don't want to be continually shelling out CP to make the stuff permanent, consider buying wealth or independent income, perhaps with the limitation that it comes through the transmutation ability. This should be particularly economical (point wise), as pure water isn't that valuable from a monetary standpoint.

Or you could just cheat and use Destroy (Pollutants). Which would be handy if you're going to go after entire wells or lakes.

Maybe... Though you'd have to win an argument with your GM. The only advantage I see is if he lets you use the weight of the pollutants rather than the weight of the water, and the fact that there is no CP/Wealth limit on how much you can do. You actually won't get the point cost per level quite as low. The rules are still on 92-94 of powers, plus the ranged enhancement.

Monetary value really depends on setting, and living necessities more so. You think advantages based on item value should default to average city life of base campaign TL?
Not a criticism as I can see arguments for and against that.

As an example, on the Desert World Athas from the D&D setting, this ability would make the character a virtual god/messiah.
