OTOH, for role-playing or street adventures or other scenarios, vans can have a place. Not just in front of your cross hairs, either. They can make semi-decent cargo-haulers for Convoy like scenarios ... But NEVER, NEVER, NEVER take one into an arena, unless you want to fulfill your death wish. |

which is the focal point of the adventure dies horribly every single time. I've had to rewrite the adventures to use Station Wagons in order to keep the principal alive long enough to make payday. Vans were written to fit around power plants, not the other way around as it should have been. SJG Editors strike again.

Responding to the bolded section ... My experience is different. Yes, the van takes a beating ... and often times it dies a horrible death. But sometimes it makes it. Depends on tactics and a little luck. |

(in reality, most Vans and Pickups share a common platform -- for ex., Ford's E-series vans and F-series pickups -- or so it's been as far back as I can remember). Typically, that allows another 40 pts. of armor; not a lot, but still helpful. Much as some folks here hate Dedicated Cargo Space, I'd also bump up the percentage of DCS -- like the Lux, the Van runs out of mass long before it runs out of space. Say, instead of 24(6), 18(12) (to keep with the Pickup) or 16(8) (to keep with the Wagon). I've experimented with bumping Std. Max. Load up to 7,500, as mentioned; this is balanced by the need to use an unmodded T-Cat just to move the beast. As noted, it makes ramming entertaining -- on the one hand, it deals extra damage due to the load being "over 8,000!" (sorry :) ), but this is cancelled by the abysmal handling (it's worse when I incorporate all the edits I've made, but since we're taking "unmodded _CW_" here, I won't go into details). In simple terms: The van is supposed to be the Next Step Down from a 10- wheeler or other oversized vehicle, but the way it's written it just doesn't accomplish the task. I'm trying to remedy that.

Re: The Unoffial 2056 Vehicle Guide
Both ideas interest me quite a lot, as I can use them in my CarDesigner. I think I'll put a new type of vehicle in there, which is optional (and can be hidden via the config screen).
Step one will be a useful van ;) Anybody else got ideas for the van? Looks like everybody hates that thing... Ciao, Klaus |

Of course metal armour fairs poorly against HESH. (Thankfully most folks seem to pick HEAT over HESH.) Your mid might fair poorly against twin incendiary rocket launchers. If it were possible to design an unbeatable car this game wouldn't be very fun. |
