Bases with self-printed cardboard heroes
Has anybody printed their own cardboard heroes and used them with the bases? If so, what worked best?
Printing on regular paper will result in a paper hero that will not be thick enough to stay stuck in the base. I can imagine a few ways to make this work, but I’m wondering what the forumites have come up with and field tested.

Re: Bases with self-printed cardboard heroes
Glue stick and whatever thin cardboard comes to hand. Print onto paper, paste to cardboard, and cut out with scissors or Xacto knife. I don't have a standard; anything that provides a bit more thickness is an improvement and I don't worry about an exact fit.

Re: Bases with self-printed cardboard heroes
If you go with something like a recipe card you'll want to follow the cardboard heroes format and fold the card over to have a double thickness. With some things in the cereal box range you may not need to fold it over if you take the paper right the way down to the bottom of the figure, or you might only need a little extra piece of paper as a shim (gluestick that in too, but put it under the figure picture so it doesn't get peeled off.).

Re: Bases with self-printed cardboard heroes
I do a similar thing—cut up a bit of cardboard (usually the remnants of a boardgame component sheet) the width of the base, fold the print-out over and glue to each side, then use packing tape as a quick and dirty "lamination".
