LOL. I should clarify; "Sort of locally" actually means "...at the end of hundreds of kilometres of unelectrified rail line". In this context, distant means QLD, the Kimberleys, or Melbourne. Because, 'Straya...

Heck, one of the major NPC groups will travel hundreds of kilometres to exchange stories, and to get leaves off a tree, or a particular type of rock for making ochre.

There's some history of priming compounds, with formulae, in Hatcher's Notebook. The short version:
  • Mercury fulminate with black powder works OK.
  • Mercury fulminate with smokeless powder makes the brass crack after very few uses, which matters in AtE.
  • Potassium chlorate is what makes primers corrosive.
  • The early non-corrosive primers needed to be used in larger pellets, which was fine in European Berdan-primed ammunition, but which did not fit into American Boxer-primed ammo.
