[DF / General] Lighting the Darkness
To a limited extent, an archer with credible skill can 'if I can see it, I can try to hit it'
This notably requires seeing it Any insights on how to try handling such challenges? |

Re: [DF / General] Lighting the Darkness
I'm not sure I understand the question being proposed.
'If I can see it I can hit it', isn't this just an attack roll?

disallow night vision and light spells to keep the players in the dark unless they throw torches/other fire. Use some places with high temperature differentials to make some mirages. use invisible opponents. smoke bombs. strictly enforce penalties for shooting at fast lateral moving opponents.

Re: [DF / General] Lighting the Darkness
I probably phrased it badly. I was hoping for insights on what party members could do to overcome the issue of not seeing in the dark, since 'if I can see it, I can hit it' is 'if I can't see it, I can't hit it'

Re: [DF / General] Lighting the Darkness
The sensible way of dealing with darkness penalties is magic items and buff spells which allow vision in darkness.
The way it usually works for me is setting everything on fire.

I have a mage with the Continual Light spell and Throwing skill. He's pitched more than a few lightstones down hallways and holes. :)

It's better to use an Explosive Fireball than to curse the darkness.

Re: [DF / General] Lighting the Darkness
Magic is so much better at providing light than DF technology its almost not worth bothering with mundane sources.
