He's a entity, but he has advantages and skills and all that jazz. The nightmares he gives me are real, though.

He gives me nightmares, makes me unable to sleep, and makes me see things. SOMETIMES, very rarely, he gives me good advice or sees something I would have otherwise missed.

So your character has nightmares and problems sleeping and blames that on a figment of his imagination because he's crazy. Now you see if the other personality could make other people have hallucinations, that would be his advantage. That your character has nightmares and problems sleeping is his disadvantage.

But "Bob" is ACTUALLY causing those things. Without Bob there, he would be able to sleep fine, not have nightmares, and not see things that aren't supposed to be there.

In what sense is "Bob" there?

He's only in my imagination, but still. It's not like he doesn't still cause those things.

It's exactly like that. He doesn't cause hallucinations no matter what it may seem. Rather there's some underlying cause that gives the character hallucinations. Bob taking credit for the other hallucinations is itself one of them. Bob IS one of the hallucinations.
