Default Week of 6/13

It's been more than a week since a new/updated product was announced. I'm jonesing, man! I need my fix!

On that note, might the developers have any of those deliciously camoflaged hints about what's due to roll out next? The distraction of figuring them out helps settle my nerves.

You know, it occurs to me I'm not actually sure what Hellsgate is about. Is it a town sitting on top of a dungeon (ie, 'gate to hell') that dungeon delvers frequent or something? Basically, GURPS's version of Tristam from the Diablo series?

Anyways, the title intrigues me, as do the various (few) things I've heard of it, so I'll probably be picking it up anyways. But still.

(sadly, I'm unlikely to get Constantinople, as historically-accurate gaming isn't exactly something that really interests me unless it's more modern, like WWI through to the Cold War:/)

Here's another two:

GURPS Locations: Worminghall, p. 9:

Just as a musician might spend hours of rehearsal to get a single phrase right in a song, magic is equally demanding.

GURPS Underground Adventures, p. 13:

All work done in a crawl space is at 1/3 speed.

GURPS After the End 1: Wastelanders, p. 28:

Anyone measuring value in the game will usually do so using rifle cartridges (“bullets”) at $10 each; e.g., “That framed backpack is worth about 10 bullets.” For simplicity, however, all prices are given here in dollars, not bullet-equivalences.

Now those are the kinds of esoteric rules I love.

Hah! You stole that from Metro 2033, didn't you?

I'm not sure anybody's actually said publicly.

Where, now? I'm almost completely detached from the world of computer games.

The book will support much more than pure historical gaming. The last chapter and other sections throughout touch on fantasy, clockpunk, horror, and other uses. You can get mileage out of it in just about any TL3-ish campaign.

Tristam is a town in the Diablo series that basically has a giant dungeon of evilness under the local church. Diablo, one of the 'great evils' or whatever they call them, was imprisoned underneath it. It didn't actually lead to Hell, but demons were always around.

Anyways, the town eventually began to cater towards adventuring parties coming through and plundering the dungeon.

That might wind up being actually useful for the fantasy game I'm still planning on running eventually, probably some time next year or so. I'll have to look into it.

GURPS Martial Arts: Technical Grappling, p. 6

All of the existing options for Extra Effort in Combat (see p. B357 and Martial Arts, p. 131) are compatible with Technical Grappling.

GURPS Martial Arts: Technical Grappling, p. 14

The following descriptors can be combined to provide details on how a weapon is treated when grappling.

GURPS Martial Arts: Technical Grappling, p. 19
There are many types of takedowns, but not all are available without the proper skill. Each has its place. See the Takedown Table (p. 00) for details.
