Last thing I need to truly make my gdf file work as planned. :) (:

ADS:Avatar needs an ADS:Essence (of which there are 4). How do I make it choose 1 of the 4?

Questing, 0, needs(ADS:Avatar)

If you want to allow for any one, you can just put each into the needs() as an OR:

needs( AD:Dynamic | AD:Pattern | AD:Primordial | AD:Questing )

If the character has one, that'll be fine. If it doesn't, auto-add can let the user pick one.
