Fantasy Setting for GURPS
This isn't the universal complaint that there's no fantasy setting for GURPS. This is the opposite. For $2.99 you get a full medieval setting in PDF:
http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/books/Harkwood/ Does this book suck, or are people just unaware of it? Because 68 pages of setting for $3 is a great price. That would make it pretty easy to get up and running in a fantasy game without a lot of stress or prep time.

I don't think it's for 4e.

Re: Fantasy Setting for GURPS
I agree, that's a great deal.
It doesn't need to be 4e. It's mostly non-system/edition dependent information. I have the printed version of Harkwood. |

Re: Fantasy Setting for GURPS
Well, it is setup in Yrth and I think that some of the complaints around Yrth is that because it features real-world religions instead of a fantasy pantheon, it doesn't provide enough "escapism". I must admit that I'm myself part of that crowd and since I'm already tired of hearing religion conflicts in the news in my real life, I really don't want to start roleplaying them. I prefer a multi-god pantheon with priest that wield divine powers granted from their gods. Same as in the Dark Eye, D&D, Dragon Warriors, etc.

Re: Fantasy Setting for GURPS
Bought it, reading through it. There is suckage on one front: it's a fairly low-res scan. But as a description of a location, complete with a bunch of powerful NPCs and pre-built schemes, it's pretty cool.
I've got a fantasy game just starting that is based in a city. Easy enough to plop that city into the Caithness map and use the surrounding background.

Re: Fantasy Setting for GURPS
One of the first GURPS settings I ran amok in was in Harkwood. Much fun, good times. Tourneys are fun when you can flirt with female knights. I recommend it for anyone making the transition out of AD&D for the first time - like a training ground for GURPS procedures.

Re: Fantasy Setting for GURPS
I think the complaint is that there's no fantasy setting except Yrth, and if you don't like Yrth then you must write or adapt your own. If Harkwood is part of Yrth then it doesn't really change that. Roma Arcana is separate from Yrth, however people might dislike it for the same reason, that it is joined at the hip to the real world. Personally, I think Roma Arcana sounds fun, but I don't want to roleplay about real-world religious conflict, either.
$3 is still a good deal, though. |

Enough that I'm tempted to buy a second copy at that price. I believe I payed $10 or a bit more for my copy. But that was dead tree half a dozen years ago give or take.

Re: Fantasy Setting for GURPS
Well, while technically real-world religions, it's a) a fantasy take and b) most of the religions mentioned are long dead, so it's mostly a non-issue. I haven't read deeply in Roma Arcana, so I don't know the details, if it has any religions that might have survived to today. But the Roman Gods haven't been venerated in a very long time.

Re: Fantasy Setting for GURPS
Unless its set only during the Republic, there will be Christians, and all the conflict between them and the polytheists, each "side" persecuting each other whenever they got into power.
