Default Beta build available for testing!

Hello folks!

Apologies we've been a little quiet in terms of updates over the past couple of weeks - we've been working on lots of little issues as well as implementing stack movement, the GEV scenarios into the game, and bringing Ogre to Mac!

Massive thanks for the patience you've all shown while we work on this.

We're almost ready to roll it out properly, but we'd love your help in the final stretch of testing over this weekend. The build is up on the 'beta' branch, which you can gain access to by right-clicking the game in Steam, going to Properties, then the Betas tab, and entering this code;

9UtpzAM9RVKakE52

Then, you need to make sure you drop down the menu and select the 'beta' branch.

It would be great if you could check out the GEV scenarios, in both single player and multiplayer. Mac users, you shouldn't need to do anything different in terms of launching and playing, and it would be fantastic if those of you on Macs could give us your thoughts and feedback. Please include your OS version in any bug reports sent :)

If playing on Mac, your log can be found in ~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log :)

NOTE: this is a beta, and it's almost inevitable that there will be bugs. If you come across any, report them to jake@aurochdigital.com as normal, with screenshots and logs where possible.

Known issues with the GEV maps;

- Ceasefire Collapse is fairly unstable - defence for CPs is incorrect, the text for the countdown is missing, and VPs are being awarded at odd times.
- The end screen may not show in Multiplayer on the GEV scenarios. It's working for standard Ogre maps as far as we can tell.

If you spot anything else, let us know!

Thanks again,

Auroch Digital

I wish I had time to test this weekend! Thanks for your hard work, and I look forward to playing either the beta or release version sometime next week.

Having issues getting the Mac version to download. I put in the beta code and it accepted it, but it's not downloading any new code.

All I get when I try to download is:
"An error occurred while updating Ogre (invalid platform)"

I have the "beta - Beta Testing" selected in the Betas tab.

That's odd. What would suggest first is to log out and in again then validate the build. ID should be 2294054 in the Local Files tab. Need to make sure the ID is right as Steam sometimes needs a kick to get onto the right one!

Might also be starting full screen and so causing an issue that way? If so be great to get a log again!

Let us know if that helps?

I think part of the problem is it won't install it in the first place because it doesn't think Mac is a valid OS to install (ie, there are no local files to check because it won't install).

The logical assumption is the beta does not have Mac flagged as an option.

I'll keep trying, but what I've tested on the Windows side so far looks promising.

Just started Essential Personnel. I set up a bunch of ultraheavies, expecting the Ogre to charge right into my guns as usual, but the A.I picked a route for the Ogre that bypasses my trap! So far, so good...

Not so good. I kept the superheavies just out of range, and the Ogres just moved around randomly on the right side of the map. Even as they got more and more reinforcements -- more than enough to walk right over my forces -- they still held back. Finally, when the train was one turn away from escaping, they started moving towards it. Conclusion: the A.I. still needs work, but I would rather see the bugs fixed first.

Agreed.

In my scenarios Shell Shock and Shell Shock! the mobile howitzers actively stay out of enemy howitzer range even though the better thing to do is move into their range and make an attack hoping to X them or Disable. The whole scenario is meant to have mobile howitzers be primary targets to be Xed as soon as possible while dealing with enemy infantry. The AI vs AI play throughs always have the game with only mobile howitzers left and neither side will move to make an attack so the game just keeps cycling through phases...forever. AI vs players is basically half that bad...lol
