Anyway, despite all those ideas, I'll probably post a cyberpunk one - it's what I've been putting off for the past few rounds. I think following (E)'s lead and focusing on one portion of the setting, in this case a corporation, might be interesting. I'll get it up soon-ish, unless someone else beats me to the punch with a different idea (btw- feel free to do so if motivated.)

Has it been 4 months already? (i.e. Since the last post on the last thread.)

Anyone else getting a creative hankering? What should we try next?

I was thinking it was about time for another one.

I still like the odd geography idea, as well as focusing on cultures near one another and their conflict with each other.

I'm not feeling very sci-fi at the moment.

The cross-dimensional fantasy setting you suggested sounds neat, though those are big settings to build.

I'd like to see many races with impressive but divergent abilities.

Many of those ideas could be wrapped together, I suppose.

Since Reflpace (iirc) mentioned his Chalice World, I've been thinking about exploring different world topologies somehow, and a geographic gimmick could do that on a different scale.

Combining that with a cross-dimensional setting would mean either a) a mobile city that transports itself between different dimensions (using its own mechanism or moving between external gates), or b) the place-of-marvelous-geography is a nexus of cross-dimensional travel (like Cynosure or Sigil). These could also be interesting, but might draw focus away from thinking about the geographic aspect.

There is no need to center it all on a single city. I was thinking that each world could have its own geographic gimic. It would help make each world memorable and unique from the others.

The travel mechanism doesn't need to be terribly accessible to the common citizen. In some ways this type of fiction is strengthened by a filter of some sort that makes travel between the worlds hard.

We could also make the geographic gimic interact heavily with the cross-dimensional aspect, which could bring the focus back on the gimic.

I'm not really sure how all this would look. I guess there's only one way to find out...

So how should the opening post look?

Just say, "We're building a campaign and setting that will combine the elements of fantasy, travel between worlds, planes and dimensions, unique geographic elements, and mercantile adventure."?
