A 3 point injury is almost but not quite enough to cripple the hand of the average person. That's a pretty serious injury.

I have a photo of a 3 point injury to my left foot on my blog right about now. :-)

Interesting that you chose the example of a nearly crippled hand.

A few years ago I messed up my defense in a martial arts class. I took a strike to my hand from a rebated sword. Broke a finger and lost the dorsal skin on that finger from the nail down to the first ITP joint (call it 1/2" by 2"). Bled through the bandages for about two days. I didn't feel like using the hand for more than a week; and still show a fore-shortened Vulcan salute even when holding my fingers together.

Sounds like a non-crippling injury and a few failed HT rolls to me.

As far as I can tell, I have a Susceptibility to "Crippling rolls from joint separation damage" (sprains, dislocations). And/or a lowered crippling threshold for those kinds of things. Or a really specialized Cursed.

Teally, the crippling thresholds themselves are abstractions too.

Lesson to be learned: Roll for Breakfall before rolling for Body Sense. Heal fast.

I seem to recall some rules or guidelines, somewhere in GURPS 4E, that equates various stages of HP loss to formal medical "triage" categories. Probably in the core books (most likely Campaigns) or in Bio-Tech.

Right. The word "belly" was not a good one. It sounds to mean that a vital organ is damaged which would do much more damage in GURPS terms... But it still what does an average knife stab in what GURPS name "torso".

Note that it is before blood loss due to bleeding. Indeed, if the GM uses the bleeding rules, the wound can make the character lose more Hit Points... Especially with bullet wounds (the penalty to the HT is high).
