Default Summon Ship in Gurps Fantasy 3e

Hi, Another question?

I am trying to create a spell to Summon a full size mist ship for one of the characters in my Fantasy Campaign. I am not sure where to look for the building blocks for this in gurps 3e. Is there a suggestion or two available?

Thanks!

Building blocks? We don't need no steekin' building blocks. Just give it a long cast time and a fatigue cost of something like ten.

I had not considered that. Thank you.

If you're actually "Summoning" an existing ship from elsewhere it's a specific version of Planar Summons.

If you're "Creating" a ship out of mist or something it's an impossibly expensive version of Create Object.

Like Fourth Edition, unfortunately, the "building block" rules for the spells in Magic are rather too vague and ambiguous for my personal taste, but see Inventing New Spells, p. M14.

However, Kromm wrote some very good guidelines in Death Magic for those spells and for Pyramid 3/76 Rice wrote some pretty good rules for creating more powerful spells as well. I'd like to have seen them a bit tighter, a bit more like Kromm's, but they are a damn sight better than those found in Magic.

Note that the magic systems between Third and Fourth changed almost none at all. Of course, therein lies some of the issues people have with it, but in your case, it's great. I'd check out 3/76.

Otherwise, Fred's advice seems reasonable for this specific case.

Create Wood, Engineer (Shipwright)/3, and a very good power stone should do it.

What's the end effect?

To provide group transportation over water/air?

Look at 'Create Mount', multiply cost by some applicable amount for how much better/more awesome it is to have a ship that can transport multiple people and cargo then it is to have a mount, perhaps give it one or two more multipliers and make the duration 'weeks' so that its useful for sea travel for mages that need to sleep.
