Munchkin Deluxe with 7 players
Hello all, I've been looking through the forums and haven't been able to find a definitive answer to my only remaining question. I'm having 7 people (including myself) over to play Munchkin Deluxe for the first time. From what I've read here I know that the game can expand from the 6 players stated on the box to 7, what I don't know is if the deluxe box has enough cards for that, or if I will need to buy any extra cards? Please let me know the answer to that, and if I will need any additional cards, I'd appreciate any suggestions on which packs are best.
Thanks |

Re: Munchkin Deluxe with 7 players
The game will be a little weird with seven people (apart from the whole "there are only six player tokens in the box" problem). You'll start running through the decks pretty quickly once a lot of the "keep in play cards" are, well, in play.
If you want to get more cards in a hurry, the easiest thing to do is pick up Munchkin 2 - Unnatural Axe and shuffle those cards in. I'd advise you to do yourself a favor and take Annihilation out of the deck for your first game, just because that card leads to a LOT of FAQs if you aren't a somewhat experienced player. You could also grab three or four 15-card boosters and shuffle those in. They aren't so much designed for balance, but that might end up being a fun effect, too.

Re: Munchkin Deluxe with 7 players
I play all the time with 7 or 8. I have all the expansions and most of the boosters, but I do very little to expand the game. Yes you need more cards than the base, but get the first expansion and you are good to go. finding another game piece and a way to track sex is on you. I made a Cthulhu sex card and use a Cthulhu game piece.

This phrase took me, briefly, to a very bad place.

Re: Munchkin Deluxe with 7 players
Thanks all for the replies. I've got a little time before the party, so I wont have any problem getting Munchkin 2. I wasn't really worried about the marker, I'll just grab one from a different game, not sure what to do about keeping track of sex, but it sounds like it could be a lot of fun :)

Re: Munchkin Deluxe with 7 players
Just to provide another viewpoint here, I'll put in a plug for maxing out at 6 players. Going over 6 isn't just a matter of having enough cards or tokens, it makes the game drag on a bit, in my experience (though I know others' experiences differ).
There is both the length of time between each player's turns, which can cause attention to wander in addition to adding length to the game, but also the fact that, the more players there are, the more people (and larger pool of cards) there is trying to stop any one person from winning, which can make the endgame really drag out. If I had 7 people that wanted to play Munchkin, I'd recommend splitting it into a game of 3 and a game of 4 players. Obviously in your case, that would require buying another base set, but that's not a whole lot more than buying an expansion, and there are tons of fun themes to choose from, that all play a bit differently, so it isn't like you'd be buying a duplicate of the same game just to accomodate an extra player. |

Doesn't the magazine of the same name take everyone who touches it to a bad place? Anyway: Ditto. . .

In context of the direction this thread is heading, "munchkinalia" briefly took ME to a bad place. ;-)

I think this discussion has served its purpose.
