Default High Quality Armor? (Lowtech)

Are there any rules for low or very high quality armor around?

What could be the benefits of a very high quality (non magical) Plate armor for instance? Less weight? More DR?

p.CII43 had a rule where you could reduce weight by 10% for an additional +25% to cost.

Dungeon Fantasy introduces Fine Armor: +900% cost, -25% weight.

There's also various armor qualities (Dwarven, Elven, Thief, Dragonhide) but those might not be appropriate in a non-Fantasy setting.
