Default New to Munchkin

Hi Everybody!
I am sorry if i write to the bad topic but i am new to Munchkin and i have only two questions: If i don't get a monster in my round and after that i loot the room i get a curse, which is for example is a curse and it writes that you lose two levels, i can curse with it other players later or i have to drop it if i haave too many cards in my hand? Because i don't want to curse myself. The second question : can i replace the sideways item cards with the equipped ones or why is it good to place cards sideways?
Thank you for Your help

Curses are one of the cards you can play pretty-much any time, so you could play that Curse on another player as soon as you draw it if you wish.

Brf already hit this one - you can play it on someone else either right then or later.

As long as you aren't in combat, you can always swap your equipped and unequipped Items that are on the table. One reason you might want to play cards sideways is to avoid giving them away as Charity at the end of your turn.
