Stygilor
I don't know if any of you have come across the Stygilor in d20 modern manace.
Stygilors are a six foot humanoid draped with flabby layers of flesh, scabs and oozing lesions cover it hairless body and head. He has sickly yellow slits for eyes, a lamprey like mouth filled with mucus strands, his arms end in several sharp taslons. He hangs around hospitals eating diseased human flesh and cancerous tumours. I have a character in my game who has cancer and was thinking maybe this could be her cure if they dont kill it because of it's horrific looks. So here's what I have as a template any suggestions? Ads Acute smell 4(8)to sniff out the cancer Ambidextrous(5) Healing (30) Innate attack 2 (14) cutting Invisibillity switchable(44) Resistance all disease(15) Terror for -2 to fright checks(32) always on-20% Dis ads Horrific appearance (24) Bad smell (10) Frightens animals (10) Increased consumption 1 (10) Restricted Diet occasional (30) tumours and diseased flesh I was also thinking of his claws maybe secreting maybe some kind of powerfull pain killer so he could cut people open to cut out cancer but wasn't sure what to do with that. |

Re: Stygilor
As monster it doesn't really need a detailed write-up, but just in case anyone wanted one as an ally or something...
Detect (Cancer) is probably better than Acute Smell. I don't think cancer has a distinctive smell. Use Sharp Claws rather than Innate Attack. I don't think Terror is necessary and 'always on' doesn't seem appropriate if this is purely a matter of disgusting appearance, since it is usually invisible. Only use that if it projects a supernatural aura of fear or something. Bad Smell seems likely to attract attention in a hospital, even if it is invisible. Increased Consumption means it has to eat a lot of nasty stuff. Possibly more than an average hospital could provide - I'd get a rough estimate of how much cancerous material is available in a typical hospital before deciding how much it eats. For the analgesic, you could use an Affliction which gives High Pain Threshold and Numb with the follow up and blood agent modifiers. |

The hypothesis as I understand it is that the superpluripotent activity of cancer cells has some kind of metabolic byproduct with a distinctive odour. It's all still in the theory stage at the moment though. |

Re: Stygilor
Per GURPS Basic Set and GURPS Powers, Detect can find things outside the range of normal human detection, like magic or gold. These are 'para-senses,' which would work well for cancer.
Detect (Cancer) with a limitation that the creature has to smell it or smelling it as a zero percent (0%) feature of the power seems the best way to model the power. Cancer's a common killer in the world, so it's probably Occasional, though if you're being friendly on the costs, it might be rare. You can also buy, per page B35, Acute Senses for a power. This effectively would raise the IQ roll for Detect and would work well for a creature with great ability to sense cancer but not that bright. See B48 and Powers 47 for more information on Detect.
