The testbed theory seems likely after you look at Sarah's daughter, but it hasn't been confirmed, or even seriously asked by the clones. But the clones definitely have a trademark written into their code. That's outright stated in the finale, and is actually standard practice with synthetic lifeforms.

Although personally, I'm rooting for the idea that clones are supposed to be organ donors/test subjects for one very ill woman.
