Default Deed of Paksenarrion conversion?

There pretty good evidence that some of Elizabeth Moon’s “Deed of Paksenarrion “ trilogy is based in the old D&D Temple of Elemental Evil and it’s village of Hommet.

Has anyone done a write up for any game system of the larger world, it's gods and so on?

The wider world doesn’t seem to be a straight Greyhawk conversion, tho some things are similar.

There are places where you can still sorta see the file marks from D&D, but moon doesn't seem to be a big fan of primary spellcasters.

I love the books but I'm not sure they're an easy sell to people who aren't into the intersection of religious and military affairs.

What are you going to do in that universe? Which group are you going to centre on?

Be a Girdish militia grange?

Be a mercenary company?

Be a knight or paladin?

It doesn't lend itself well to the traditional mixed group.

It's true that the mages are just sort of there: the author hasn't ever bothered to detail the life of the modern wizards who don't think they are blessed by the gods but just want to pay the mortgage.

Sort of? There are times I've thought she must have written Paks on a bet with someone claiming no one could turn a literal D&D 1e paladin into a good novel.

This is accurate as I understand it; she was sitting in on a D&D game, and very annoyed at how the paladin was played, so she wrote a paladin the way she thought they ought to be played.

I think I read that from her. It helps that she is Christian, so she has opinions on how a saintly warrior should behave.

She also said that the military science is a mix of de bello gallico and her own time in the U.S. Marine Corps. There is an official fan site for the setting somewhere.

The first thing Paks does after leaving the mercenary company is form an adventuring party....

It’s set in almost-WoG. I’m just FYI g to figure out which gods correspond to which and which nations to which.

From a conversation at A-kon with her, the gnomish law system is based on the roman legal system with respect to the 12 tablets; the dwarven legal system is based on early germanic laws. IIRC, she said that the village of Hommlet in the Temple of Elemental Evil wasn't a source for her.

Plus it not limited to the original trilogy any more, even if you ignore the of Gird prequels, there the Paladin's Legacy series the follows what happen to the lives that Pak touch after the original trilogy.

I’m re-reading the trilogy now, 30+ years after I first read it.

Moathouse, carnivorous frogs in the moat... etc, etc.

...and if that isn’t Lareth I’ll eat my hat.
