the player of Special Agent Rubio might well object to my choice of an accessory for his character which clashed with his outfit, when next we play
There's probably a reason but why isn't Agent Rubio's player figuring this all out?

A pernicious lack of procrastionation impulse? Obscene devotion to actual job over obviously more important gaming duties?

Also, probably, no other player nor the GM in the campaign possesses quite the level of enthusiasm for equipment lists as yours truly. Which is why I get to be the quartermaster to fictional characters.

Couldn't the case have been custom made rather than bought off the shelf?

Theoretically, certainly, but it would still have some appearance and unless I were to hire a special effects department for Jade Serenity, a picture of a real object seems like the most practical way to represent it.

Would an aluminum briefcase be out of order?

There is on at https://www.mycasebuilder.com/al-181...foam-case.html

with:

Inside Dimensions (Inches)
Length (I.D.): 17.25
Width (I.D.): 12.25
Height (I.D.): 4.5
Base Height (I.D.): 2.75
Lid Height (I.D.): 1.75

An aluminum briefcase would certainly not be out of order. The link takes me to their website, which appears in SI units for me, but the MAX430 case or, if that's a little too tight, the MAX505 case would fit.

From a realism point of view, a hard-duty aluminum case with foam protects the weapon much better, of course. The price point is also going to appeal to the logistics officer responsible for the unit purchase.

Two potential issues exist, however. First, aesthetics. Personally, I actually like the rugged, no-nonsense look of this case. I think it would actually accessorize fine with the rest of Special Agent Rubio's outfit. I don't know whether her player would agree, however. Second, though otherwise excellent, I think that the case does kind of look like a gun case. I think it would be slightly less covert than a fashionable briefcase.

Realistically, that might not matter to JSOC or a hypothetical purchaser in this specific platoon of DEVGRU Black Squadron. After all, if you want to conceal the MP7A1, you have the option of a shoulder rig.

Hmmm... can I get a vote of forumites following the discussion, whether they favour Agemegos' Saddleback, one of Ŝorkell's offerings or Michael Silverbane's MAX[number] case?

Or some other option, of course?

My impression of fashions in this kind of stuff is that a big part of it is showing you're up-to-date. Having dug through the stock of a specialist leather bag shop in December 2017 looking for a new shoulder bag, the Saddleback and the LederMann seem to be the style that's currently "in."

Guitar case.

IIRC you can fit even a short barreled assault rifle in one of those. And the guitar is a common instrument in Mexico.

Of course, some innocent stranger may ask you to play . . .

Looks like you are right.

Which do forumites think looks better?

Or would everyone prefer a guitar case?

As I'm still looking for containers for a Bushmaster Carbon 15 (28" OAL with stock folded) and Zastava N-PAP (25" OAL with stock folded), I could easily go with a guitar case for one or two rifles and a stylish case for the MP7A1.

By length alone, you could fit a full-length rifle in a guitar case, it looks like. And there are commerical models of rifle cases designed to look like guitar cases, which tickles me somewhat. Hazard 4 Battle Axe Guitar-Shaped Padded Rifle Case. Any place which allows you to custom order foam inserts makes it a snap to do yourself, as well, and anyone reasonably handy can probably come up with his own way to secure a rifle in a guitar case.

One PC can even strum a little Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and other favourites. Basically, both kinds of music, Country and Western. Which is unfair, as he also knows a couple of Lynard Skynard songs and a bunch of hymns. Bet he could even play a few ranchera tunes by José Alfredo Jiménez, even.

Of course, I don't think you can actually fit a guitar in the case at the same time you hide a longarm in there. Which is too bad, really.

The answer to that is a double bass case,
