Steal the Credit from your own elven helper?
Steal the Credit says it may be played when a rival wins a battle and goes up a level.
If I am the main combatant, and an elf helps me and thus goes up a level, can I play Steal the Credit? That is, did the helper "win", or does only the main combatant win? In this thread, MIB Hobbes said that a helper elf could play it on the main combatant - I am asking the reverse. |

Hobbes is far from someone who can give an official ruling, so aside from me saying, right now, that he's correct, you can't necessarily base a ruling off of that.
I'm inclined to say no to your question, however, but I'll discuss it with Andrew and see what shakes out, since it's only an inclination, not a hard yes/no feeling at the moment. |

The other question is, is a helper in combat considered a rival at that point?

Re: Steal the Credit from your own elven helper?
Regardless of anything, a rival is a player, in the game, who is not you. He could be your best bud, your brother from another mother, your conjoined twin, even, and he'd still be your rival as far as the game goes. The bigger issue, and the one I want to discuss with Andrew, is whether the helper can be considered the "winner."

We've had the same situation last night, and I ruled it as one can't Steal The Credit from their elven helper (because of MM's inclination ;-)), but maybe you have discussed it with Andrew and made other decision?

Assuming my evidence is strong enough, I'd say that you played it correctly as the helper shouldn't be considered to have won the combat. This stance still needs official confirmation, though.
