I'd have to go pull out my GMs screen (alas I'm at work) to see what I'd cut and what I'd replace it with... you definitely want Banestorm art on the back of course. - A different font for headers to make it more fantasy-themed? - Perhaps some margin art - the edge of parchment look? might be excessive. - We absolutely want the critical spell failure chart on this screen. Heheheh. - Perhaps a list of the various ranks and titles of address for us non-historians who get our barons and dukes mixed up and don't know how to refer to either beyond "politely". I can't think of any other charts that are Banestorm specific, but my book is still waiting for Amazon.ca to find it in their warehouse :(

Re: Banestorm artwork
Well, looking at the 4th ed screen, there are few things I would change, as the critical spell failure table is already there. Only the firearms malfunction table should be removed, and probably replaced with something banestorm specific...
In fact you only really need to change the art, and if it wouldn't increase the price by much, add some background image (a parchment border like Bruno proposed?) to the text areas, and you would be set... |

Re: Banestorm artwork
I still don't own a copy, but I did get to flip through one. I can't comment on specific pieces, but the artwork in this book is definitely the strongest I've seen in a GURPS 4E book. The pictures are generally strong and unobtrusive, and though it's not exactly georgous, I definitely enjoyed it. I think it's a big improvement over the other books, and I hope this is the minimum standard held on all future releases.

Since my FLGS usually only gets GURPS material if I order it I probably won't have a chance to see Banestorm in the forseeable future so here's my 2¢ based on the preview PDFs: The cover is okay but I much prefer those for Characters, Campaigns, Magic, and Infinite Worlds. The only part that stood out a little to me was the the guy in the purple -- his panel added some needed energy to the cover. I like the stylization of the maps, they brought to mind a little of the artwork for some of the LOTR paperback book covers from the late 60's/early 70's. If I get a chance to see Banestorm I hope that I can make more positive comments than I did concerning some of the other books. I also hope that will be the case for Space and Interstellar Wars. |
