I think the bonus is valid; the weapon offers a nice, long surface for parrying.

But so do a lot of other weapons. In this thread, Kromm offers a fine system for calculating Parry mod for any weapon, based on length, balance, rigidity, grip, guards, etc. It's a must-read for anyone wanting to tinker with Parry mods.

It ends up generating a number of familiar results: +2 Parry for a quarterstaff, -1 for a small knife, 0 for broadsword, etc. But a number of weapons gain a different Parry mod; two-handed swords, spears, and polearms even match the quarterstaff in parrying prowess.

Sure but that means the bonus is valid for a lot of other weapons. That only Staffs get it is what makes me label it "ethnic cool".
