[3e] The Weaving Jester (fictional)
The Weaving Jester (TL4)
Designed by pyrates from the keel up, the Weaving Jester is meant to sail fast and hit hard. She has Fine lines and lots of sails, with a well-armed gun deck and an ample hold for booty. She even has a brig to hold prisoners for ransom (ill-behaved crew are shot!). There are four cabins for important crew (i.e., the PCs) and hammocks for the rest of the scurvy dogs. This ship requires a crew of 20 to sail her, not including gunners or extra fighting hands. A skeleton crew of 6 could manage if necessary. Subassemblies: Body with Fine lines +7, one 116' Main Mast +3, one 104' Fore Mast +3, one 93' Mizzen Mast +1, 20 open mounts +0. Powertrain: 16,328 sf of Full-Rigged Cloth Sails. Occupancy: Up to 4 in cabins, up to 50 in hammocks. Minimum crew is 1 driver + 5 sailors. Cargo: 5,000 cf Armor: 3/5W overall Weaponry: 10x 9-pdr cannons [Body:R] (100 shots each). 10x 9-pdr cannons [Body:L] (100 shots each). 2x 9-pdr cannons [Body:F] (100 shots each). 2x 9-pdr cannons [Body:B] (100 shots each). 20x 1-pdr cannons [OMs:R,L] (100 shots each). Body: Navigation instruments, four cabins, 50 hammocks, brig, galley, 1,800 man-days provisions. On Deck: Capstan (4,800-lb. winch with 6-man muscle engine), primitive controls. Two cockboats in external cradles. Statistics: Size: 150'x18'x116' Payload: 94 tons Lwt.: 220 tons Volume: 24,280 cf. Maint.: 36 hours Price: $312,040 HT: 8. HPs: 7547 Body, 278 Foremast; 348 Mainmast, 222 Mizzenmast, 12 each OM. wSpeed: 26 wAccel: 1.5 wDecel: 0.33 wMR: 0.05 wSR: 1 Draft: 13'. Flotation Rating: 583 tons. Design Notes: Structure is Medium, with Standard materials. Waterproofed. Armor is DR 5 Standard Wood. The volume of the armor is figured into the design, as per the rules on p. VEii5. The ship is designed at TL4. If the GM wished to allow a TL5 Extended Full Rig, wSpeed could be increased to 28 mph. The hull dimensions were reverse-engineered from the body’s volume using the Builder's Old Measurement. This is probably not quite accurate, since the BOM assumes a vessel with Mediocre lines. The Main Mast height was taken from the maximum allowed height for the design’s Body; the Fore Mast is 0.9 times as tall as the Main Mast and the Mizzen Mast is 0.8 times as tall, based on calculations done by Hal on the SJGames forums. Design draft was doubled for better realism. The crew requirements are based on the required number of sailors (p. VE75) in the rigging plus a driver (the skeleton crew), multiplied by 3 shifts and adding two officers (a captain and first mate).
