Default Doppleganger

a) If I play Doppleganger and a Thief backstabs me, does that apply to my duplicate as well, or does the Thief have to backstab the duplicate separately? What if the Thief backstabs me before I play Doppleganger?
b) If I play Doppleganger and then play Help Me Out Here, does my duplicate get a copy of the acquired item too?

Here's how Doppleganger works: Figure out your combat strength and double it. If your combat strength changes, double the new value. Repeat as necessary.

The Doppleganger cannot be backstabbed, because it is not a player.

And you didn't ask, but if you play Doppleganger and then ask for help, the Doppleganger's bonus goes away (but the card stays on the table, and if something kicks your helper out of the fight, the Doppleganger's bonus comes back).
