Re: Sci-Fi Police of the year 2049 AD
As Lisa pointed out, one of the solutions to hacking may very well be "low tech". How low tech?
Why is it that today's computers are prone to be hacked? Is it because the software for the operating system is designed to be extremely helpful in adding on additional modules, additional hardware, and needs to be able to communicate with other things not as yet developed? Might it not make sense to make the operating system hard wired so that it can't be changed (can't be upgraded, can't be improved, etc)? Now, what if you build your drone to have swappable "Computer modules"? Pull out the current computer that does X reasonably well, but later on, in five years, pull the module out, and put a new module in whose OS is better, and the computer is improved. It too will have to be hard wired, and it too will have to be built to the specs where it will fit into the drone body. In other words, you do NOT want a versatile computer module placed in the drone, you want a dependable computer module in the drone. |

Re: Sci-Fi Police of the year 2049 AD
On the what story do you want to tell, check out From Russian with Blood, about modern assassinations by Russian security services of folks in the UK and US. Local homicide cops seem to have been pressured to close assassination cases as accidents/suicides for political reasons. This sounds like a great plot seed for near future -- local cops vs. foreign assassins and avoiding their own security service cover-up.
