Interesting points.

I can see where there will tweaks and polishes to these rules once done. I think I've got "steering" figured out.

Still working on how to handle what happens when someone or something is unlucky enough to be caught underfoot.

HeatDeath, I too tried to figure out how to steer a Walker by walking around on all fours. People and animals have swivel joints the walker does not.

Having just re-watched Empire with my kids, I can confirm that the walkers DO have some sort of swivel/rotation in their hip joints, at least in the rear. One kicks its back leg out to the side to shoot down a snowspeeder, allowing it to aim further left than the head swivel can do on its own.
