Default Multiple turns of Combat

I've read on here that multiple one-shots can be used during combat. I've also read that multiple monsters can be added to combat with the Wandering Monster card. This situation happened tonight and my group can't seem to agree on a solution.

Player 3 started a fight with a monster. They were strong enough to beat it. I laid down a Wandering Monster card and a high level monster. Player 3 negotiated for help with Player 1 and then played a one-shot. At this point they were able to beat the monster, but I wanted to play a one-shot.

They argue that I can't play both a one-shot and a wandering monster.

It went further. Player 1 then played a one-shot and I responded by playing another one-shot.

They argue that I can't play multiple one-shots during a combat turn

Essentially they are saying I can only play a single one-shot, a wandering monster, or a monster enhancer. They also stated that if I were to play multiple I would've had to play the Monster Enhancer at the same time that I played the Wandering Monster.

I've not been able to find anything that specifies otherwise, but that doesn't seem right to me. Shouldn't combat be played out in "turns"?

Also Player 3 wanted me to point out other details...
Once the help was negotiated and the first one-shot thrown. Player 3 had the ability to defeat the monster. They went to the calculator to add stuff up. This is when I decided to throw the Enhancer and Player 1 threw the second one-shot. Then I threw the third one-shot. This all happened very quickly. Player 3 says that we shouldn't be allowed to play cards in this manner as it is their combat and should be given the opportunity to run away or use their own cards whenever they want.

Nothing you did sounds like it's against the letter or spirit of the rules. The first player could have still played his own cards if he wanted -- he's no more locked into playing one card than you are -- and if he had wanted to Run Away, he could have done so even after making you waste all your cards. :-)

That was quick! Thanks for the reply. I'm sure they will still disagree, but this is the best I can do. :)

If they still argue, feel free to tell them that the guy Steve hired to be in charge of Munchkin agrees with you. :-)

I've never seen combat played in turns; people just throw down cards whenever they want!

That's true. I assumed the original poster just meant people could play cards and respond to card plays without a set limit on the number of times that could happen.
