Default Dungeon Fantasy Dungeon Planner in PDF and Print

A new release, the Dungeon Planner, is available in both PDF and through Amazon's print-on-demand service. This is a toolkit for those GMs who enjoy creating dungeons.

Default Re: Dungeon Fantasy Dungeon Planner in PDF and Print

I saw this earlier today in an email notice from DriveThruRPG, and was surprised. Just $3 (PDF), folks!

It's book of forms, not content. Specifically:
  • 1 wide-area map to sketch out the whole dungeon
  • 1 Adventure Planning Form
  • 1 master list of rooms
  • 1 page for dungeon history
  • 16 two-page spreads for individual rooms (map + details of room, encounters, treasure, etc.)
  • 3 pages for Wandering Monsters and Random Traps
  • 3 pages of monster "cards"
  • 2 pages of trap "cards"
  • 3 pages for notes

So it's largely a collection of forms already found in existing books, but with some new additions. And it's kind of cool to see them all in a single book, ready to plan out a single dungeon.

Initial thoughts:
  • The room maps offer a little more map height than the Room Record Sheet in Exploits, though it's not a big difference. Everything looks fine for most dungeons, but if you want to map out really big rooms, or a really big dungeon on the master map, you may want to call on other map sheets with bigger dimensions or smaller hexes.
  • I assume that fans of the product will happily buy one printed book per dungeon. (Clever, those designers. : ) That'll certainly entail a bit of cost, but the cost of one Dungeon Planner per multi-session dungeon is still cheap.
  • For a big, multi-level dungeon, you may want one book per level!
  • For those who'll build up a collection of Planners, one design detail might have been nice: a designated spot on the cover to write the name of the dungeon/adventure. Yeah, it looks like a dark marker on the whitish part of the central graphic will work, or the GM can just write the name on a white address label and slap it somewhere. But thinking of this book as a kind of "build a module kit", a tidy spot on the cover for the adventure's title sounds useful to me.

No more thoughts at the moment – it's a simple (but likable) product. I'll have to get the Amazon POD version and cook up something.

I wish more effort had been put into making it fillable digitally. Would have been nice for distribution of dungeons online

First I'd like to say THANK YOU for providing multiple links for the POD.

As for the form fillable there are plenty of free or inexpensive pdf editing software for you to add it yourself.

While I agree that there are plenty of software for that. The way the pdf is built makes it very unfriendly to edit. For example the hex are all individual hexes making any change incredibly slow.
