Div. 30 designs (which, BTW, has never been defeated... :) ) has nearly a dozen different variants to it, which are sufficiently similar that if a player is not paying attention during the exterior description, he's likely to miss the fine points.... The latter is also an old idea -- in fact, it's one of the factors which killed _CW_; have you ever looked through the rules and tried to find a way to *destroy* dropped weapons? Doesn't exist. I've played. Granted, my preferred DW combo is one SD each B and either L or R -- it creates a line of spikes (usually explosive or incendiary) which is all-but-guaranteed to detonate, and is very useful at sealing off chokepoints and other areas, which does a number on a Rammer's ability to use speed and maneuver.

In the 2050 WDC, I advanced out of the preliminary Division 10 round with a rammer. I don't generally use rammers in SPARK duels because I don't seem to design them very well.

Haring said something about it in _ADQ&A_ a long time back), and Sand does nothing for my preferred DW combo (in fact, I've never even used Ice or Oil; that Stickyfoam nonsense I do not consider official as it's never been published in any form where any random passerby can read it and make sure it's an Actual Item as opposed to something someone phonied up on his own computer -- don't laugh, I've seen it done with varying degrees of success). As to ramcars: The only ramming I do is usually a shot to the quarterpanel in order to force a control roll.

The most effective ram car I ever made was a pickup with a ram plate and a car trailer. I loaded the trailer with junk droppers because the cost-to-weight ratio was more favorable than armor. At 12,000+ lbs., it had a Damage Modifier of 3. I drove completely through all the opponents I hit. |

How did it handle after a ram?

opponents' Top armor" trick. It "worked" for exactly one volley at one car. Then Yr. Obd. Srvt. came in from the other side, got to point-blank range, and blew the hitch off -- and a trailer does not handle well when it is detached from its tow vehicle at speed. It didn't help him that his car was so horrifyingly slow, shooting at him was a doddle. Now, I suppose you might be thinking "I'll use metal-over-plastic armor"; where I played, the most-common weapons used were RRs and BCs -- with HESH ammo. Watch Mr. Ramplate evaporate before your very eyes. And, as mentioned elsewhere: You wouldn't be the only one using dropped weapons; I killed many a rammer by turning tail, and unloading explosive SDs in his path (incendiaries, if I really wanted to make sure of him). If nothing else, a tire being blown off does tend to negate the rammer's speed advantage (if he doesn't crash outright, he's slowed enough to render ramming less-than-effective). Strategy question: Did you play stand-up fights, or checkpoint events?
