Default Expansion recommendations. . .

I currently only have the original Munchkin game but would like to add one of the expansions (Unnatural Axe, Clerical Errors, The Need for Steed, or De-Ranged). I'm soliciting opinions on which compliments the original game best. Thanks for the tips!

They're designed to be applied in sequence - so Unnatural Axe, as Munchkin 2, is the best place to start. Otherwise, you wind up having to remove some cards that refer to races or classes that were introduced in an expansion you don't have.

you can always use cards that refer to things you dont have (i.e. classes/races) as blank cards.
of course you dont write on them, but you just decide they do something else when people get them.

...which, in my book, is just a different form of removal. My point is simply that, for instance, Munchkin 4 builds on the cards present in Munchkin 1-3, meaning that if you use only Munchkin 1 and 4 in your deck, you have to work around the absence of 2 and 3. On the other hand, if you use 1 and 2 as your deck, no such hacking is required. You can then add 3, 4, and 5 as you get them, and you don't have to worry about unbalancing anything as long as you add in sequence.

Me, I'm grumbling a little bit because I'm going to have to put my Classic Munchkin deck in a new box when I add Munchkin 5. The 400-count white box I'm using now is just big enough for 1-4 plus promos. Maybe that shop still has some 550-count boxes on hand....
