Default Wand of Dowsing or Kick Open The Door?

So I was under the impression that drawing a Door Card to see if there's a monster was something you HAD to do during your turn no matter what. But then during a game this evening, a friend of mine tried to use the Wand of Dowsing to pick out a low level monster at the start of his turn, and then wanted to fight that monster right away. So I'm wondering; won't that count as Looking For Trouble and therefore be against the rules unless he kicks open a door and doesn't find a monster first?

Also, similar situation and same question about Cleric's Resurrection ability.

Correct. If he has a method of retrieving a Monster, he may do so for purposes of Looking for Trouble, but he would still have to Kick Open a Door first. That is not a skippable phase.

On your second question, it is possible for the Cleric to use Resurrection when he Kicks Open The Door. Note that Resurrection can only be used when the Cleric would be drawing a face-up card. Kicking Open the Door is a face-up draw, so a Cleric can choose to face the top card from the Door discards instead of the top Door from the deck by discarding a card. He will treat this card as the card he got from Kicking Open the Door, so he will fight it if it is a monster.

It's very important to remember that the Cleric's resurrection ability is not a true "dumpster diving" ability. It's more like taking an eclair (that's still on a paper plate) from the top of the garbage. As Clipper mentioned, it only allows you to take the top card(s) from a discard pile. You're only allowed to resurrect up to as many cards you were allowed to draw at the time you are using the ability, or the number of cards in your hand before you draw, whichever is lower. So, in the case of kicking down the door, you may only take one card from the top of the Door discards as your draw because you would only be allowed to draw one card at that time.

And, yes, that card is the same as if you'd kicked down the door, in that case, so follow the normal decision tree at that point: Monster, fight; Curse, it hits you; anything else, put it into your hand or play it immediately.
