Default Question About Investigator Epic Feat

I've been using the site for sometime now for reference, but have finally come across an issue I couldn't find an answer to. Player A was a thief and successfully stole an item from player B player C was an epic investigator and made the argument that he could use his epic ability to look at the item and keep it swapping me two cards for it. I allowed it to happen as I was outnumbered 2-1 but just not sure if stealing counts as one player giving one to another.

Stealing is not the same as giving.
