Hockeystaff as a weapon
1) What stats would a hockeystaff used as a weapon have?
2) Then what if you design it as a weapon first, and secondly to look like a hockeystaff? 2b) What if the edge is sharpened? What if it's sharpened on the inside (like a hook sword) instead? ---- 1) I am guessing this would just be a short staff (like a Jo from Low Tech), but cheap quality for being light-weight and with a skill penalty for being improvised (and not as well balanced). 2) This could just be a staff, but if the head is heavy enough to act like a weapon, I don't think it would be as balanced as a staff, and I think it ought to get +2 to swing attacks (still crushing). So maybe a polearm with Sw+2 cr. Reach: 1,2*. But NOT unbalanced parry. 2b) This is actually the part I am most interested in for a slightly cinematic character in a near-future setting. But this is also where I am most unsure about the stats. I am guessing it's stat should match nr. 2) pretty well, but just with cut dam instead of crushing? |

Re: Hockeystaff as a weapon
Since hockey stick 'blades' are either wood or a composite plastic, you're pretty much stuck doing crushing damage. For stats I'd say: Dam sw-1 cr; Reach 1,2; Parry 0; WT 2; and ST 5†.
If you made the blade out of metal, then sure, cut away... For stats I'd go with Dueling Glaive if it's designed to be a weapon and is just disguised as a hockey stick. |

Re: Hockeystaff as a weapon
...now I'm confused. What sort of hockey stick has a blade on it?

Re: Hockeystaff as a weapon
I thought he meant sharpening the wooden blade. If you rebuild it to have a metal blade, it's a polearm (probably that dueling glaive). If you sharpen the wooden blade, then it's a dueling glade made out of wood, as a bokken is to a katana. Though a quick glance through MA and LTC didn't show me rules for alternative weapon materials.

I wonder why? Hockey sticks are really super light weight. |
