Olympics: Biathalon
How would you model Biathalon in GURPS?
For those who don't know that's a combination of cross-country skiing and rifle marksmanship. Obviously Skiing (Nordic) and Guns (Rifle) are involved. Fit/ Very Fit would be almost mandatory. Breath Control would be useful. Controlling breathing to not disrupt your shooting is critical. I'd say for each shooting phase you have to make a HT or Breath Control roll or suffer a penalty equal to the margin of failure to shooting. The skiing part I'd do like a chase, but using Skiing instead of Running. Thoughts? |

GURPS Skiing is just the cross country kind, so you don't need the specialization. I suppose downhill and ski jumping are a Sport skill. The shooting part is a version of Guns Sport, which can after all be specialized by sport. I might well call it Guns Sport (biathalon) - the running version apparently being called "summer biathalon - though there do seem to be a few other formal variations where you shoot at something right after a heavy workout that would use the same skill, like target sprinting.

I'm not sure that GURPS has sufficiently finely detailed rules on the effects of tiredness on precision tasks, though it'd probably not be terribly hard to work something out if anybody wants to run GURPS Winter Olympics.

I played a Cyberpunk game that included shooting an IPSC style course once. Now I’m always trying to see how well such things can be mimicked in various game systems
