FAQ made me confused about Ranch Hand

The FAQ states:
"Q. If I choose to keep the Ranch Hand as a sidekick and not kill him, do I still gain the three treasures?
A. No. You can get him as as an extra Sidekick or you can take the levels and treasures, but not a combination of the two."

The card itself states:
"If you defeat the Ranch Hand, you can either count him as a kill and go up a level, or keep him as a Sidekick. You get the Treasure either way."

Don't these directly contradict each other? My card is from 1st edition, 4th printing, July 2012. Honestly I wasn't even wondering about this card, I went on the FAQ for a separate question I had. But seeing this in the FAQ threw me off.

I can not find the printing information on the box, but it's an old box (rule 1.0)
On my card there is another text, there is no "You get the Treasure either way", and no information in the errata.
which card text is right?
