Reloading -- Overheated Rocket Tubes?
I was comparing stats between High-Tech's rocket launchers and the ones from Ultra-Tech and I noticed something. TL7-8 rocket launchers tend to have reload speeds of 4 seconds, presumably for the steps of replacing a rocket.
But then look at Ultra-Tech missile launchers. The 64mm launchers have reloads of (5), so about what you'd expect from LMG weapons with box magazines. That's close enough. And then there's the Tactical Missile Launcher, with a reload of a whopping (20) seconds! That's the same reload speed for a gastrophetes or old-timey smoothbore pistol! My guess is that the barrel is superheated after launch, and reloading early could cause a premature launch of the new shell. What do you think? Do TML launchers have too long of a reload? |

20 seconds is on par with most guided missile launchers in HT, including the TOW, Milan and Dragon.

In real life loading the TOW isn't trivial in terms of time or physical effort.

Re: Reloading -- Overheated Rocket Tubes?
The IML fires a quite modest sized 2-pound round. The TML fires a 25-pound round. Taking that kind of time to load it up is probably not unreasonable for a human...but it should probably be considerably faster with assistance or huge strength.

Re: Reloading -- Overheated Rocket Tubes?
Well, assuming a vehicular mount with robotic autoloaders, would it reload each... second? Three seconds?

If it's a guided missile launch just setting the targetting coordinates will slow you down.

Re: Reloading -- Overheated Rocket Tubes?
It's not, by default, and that's not part of the reload process anyway.

The only hard limit I can see on the reload time is how forcefully you can shove around the rounds and launcher elements before things start to break...

Re: Reloading -- Overheated Rocket Tubes?
Going back to Ve2 the best reload time you could get for a missile launcher is 1/2. Time to Aim/Designate Target is always extra.
